Paul Beaver is an aviation and special forces historian with a pilot’s logbook which includes the Spitfire, Harvard and Mustang, as well as being a seaplane and flying boat rated pilot for more than 25 years. He regulars flies the family Cessna and has been an authorised civilian and military flying display director. He was chairman of Aeronautical Heritage for the Royal Aeronautical Society 2018-22, is a Vice-President of the Spitfire Society and Vice-Chairman of the Billy Fiske Foundation. He is a Trustee, chairs the development Committee and the ‘Founding Ace’ of the National Spitfire Memorial to be raised in Southampton and for which he is busily fund raising. He commentates on television and radio on aviation, aerospace and current military affairs. His books include SPITFIRE PEOPLE, SPITFIRE EVOLUTION and FORGOTTEN FEW, the story of the naval pilots in the Battle of Britain. His latest book on the legendary naval test pilot WINKLE Brown will be published by Michael Collins in June 2023 and he is now writing MITCHELL, father of the Spitfire. Paul spent 15 years directly linked to Jane’s including Naval Editor and Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of Jane’s Defence Weekly. He made JDW into a household name in 1990 through his broadcasting during the Liberation of Kuwait and eventually became a freelance war correspondent for Sky News and a studio ‘expert’ for BBC News and CNN International, for whom he jointly presented the 50th Anniversary of D-Day (from Normandy), VE-Day(from Moscow) and the Hong Kong Handover. He is a director and trustee of the Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop, a former Trustee of the Barnes Wallis Foundation, the International Bomber Command Centre and the Supermarine S5 charity, as well as member of the Air & Space Power Association and is a member of the Royal Air Force Historical Society He regularly lectures at the Chalke Valley History Festival and appears on television and radio news programmes. Paul is a Member of No 601 Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force which traces its history back to before the Battle of Britain. Previously, he had been the senior army aviation reservist, retiring in 2013 with the rank of Colonel. From 2014-16, he was Chairman of No 1010 (City of Salisbury) Squadron of the Air Cadet Organisation. He lectures regularly on a host of subjects.
