From Early Modern Britain to the present day, women’s experiences of justice – both as perpetrators and victims – have been shaped by deeply ingrained societal biases. In this thought-provoking panel discussion, justice system reformer Edwina Grosvenor is joined by Blessin Adams and Wendy Joseph KC to explore the evolution of crime, punishment, and justice for women across history. Historian and former police officer Blessin Adams uncovers the chilling yet fascinating stories of female killers in Early Modern Britain – women whose violent crimes shattered societal expectations and exposed deep-seated fears about female agency. Meanwhile, former Old Bailey judge Wendy Joseph KC, brings her firsthand experience of modern criminal trials, examining how justice is dispensed today and whether our legal system truly serves the vulnerable. Join us for a gripping and necessary discussion that confronts the realities of justice – past and present – and challenges us to demand better for the future.
