Despite the images we cherish of Britain’s bucolic landscapes and ancient forests, the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with about three-quarters of the country showing a high-level of ecosystem degradation. Campaigner Guy Shrubsole and environmental historian Matthew Kelly discuss who really cares for the countryside. Is it the landowning elite who are paid billions of taxpayer pounds to be good stewards? Is it the communities who are fighting back to restore our lost landscapes? Ot is it the government who have pledged new legislation to empower National Parks and National Landscapes to deliver more for people and nature?
