However, dig below the surface of Austen’s novels and a lot more is revealed about the author’s revolutionary views on issues such as slavery, feminism, the treatment of the poor and even evolution. In this special event that celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, Gill Hornby and Helena Kelly discuss the woman behind the myth and what her novels can tell us about real life in Regency Britain.
