102. The Colourful Past: Paint and the English Country House
Henge

Edward Bulmer, one of our nation’s foremost architectural historians, is part of a new generation of designers working on historical houses with an eye on designs that appeal to contemporary fashions while at the same time respecting the classical traditions that have made the British country house style so popular today. Edward takes us on an in-depth tour of his work in some of Britain’s finest homes including Althorp, Goodwood, Pitshill House and Broughton Hall, along with his own stunning Queen Anne manor house, Court of Noke. Key to Edward’s success is his belief that the future lies in the return to natural materials, especially paint.
