The heroic image of the male farmer ploughing the lonely furrow has dominated perceptions and discussions about the history and culture of Britain’s farms. But this has too often been at the expense of the familial, social and – especially – female networks that have provided the backbone of support for our national farming. Helen Rebanks, Minette Batters and Cherish Watton will discuss the vital but unsung role that women have traditionally played on farms.
