This year’s Second World War Morning will focus on the war in the Far East and the Pacific. First up, Phil Craig and Robert Lyman examine the war in Southeast Asia and how it affected the post-war drive for independence and ultimately Partition in India and led to the troubles facing Myanmar to this day. Saul David looks at Okinawa from April to June 1945, and what proved to be the bloodiest campaign of them all. Frank Close will then discuss the significance of dropping the atomic bomb – twice – on Japan and how that changed warfare and the global order for all time. Finally, in this special morning session, former Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt, and Rob Lyman will talk about the Korean War of the 1950s and how the tentacles of that conflict are still being felt to this day. It will be an authoritative and uniquely special collection of talks and discussions.
