Helen Thompson and John Gray will discuss the second Trump presidency as a challenge to the very idea of liberal democracy and as a response to the rise of an economic and technological multi-polar world made by China and Russia. They will attempt to place Trump’s disruption of the European security order, to the world trading and financial system, and to Canada’s independence as a sovereign state in world history, Finally, they will ask whether the Trump 2 shock has rendered the monotheistic foundations of liberalism and the mythical history of western democracies incoherent and redundant.
