Zack White

Zack White is an award-winning historian and host of the Napoleonic Wars Podcast and Youtube Channel, whose work has featured on the BBC, Channel 4, and in the local and national press. An expert on the Napoleonic era, and the British empire in the early 19th Century, his research has looked at topics ranging from soldiers’ morale during the period, to how 19th century media covered the conflict, crime and punishment in the British Army, and the treatment of sepoys in the East India Company Army. He is currently based at the University of Portsmouth, where he holds a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellowship. A passionate advocate of popular history, and commemoration of the period, in 2021 he founded the Napoleonic & Revolutionary War Graves Charity, an organisation which he chaired until 2024. Most recently he spearheaded the Heritage 1815 initiative, which seeks to preserve the historical sites of the Napoleonic era which face threat from urban expansion. When not buried in archive documents or shooting a documentary, he can be found doing tours of Napoleonic battlefields, giving public lecturers, training for a pilot’s licence, or fussing over the nearest dog!
